Veterinarians Without Borders Congratulates Prime Minister Mark Carney on Election Win

Ottawa, CANADA, April 29, 2025  Veterinarians Without Borders North America/Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Amerique du Nord (VWB/VSF) warmly congratulates the Right Honourable Mark Carney on his election victory and re-appointment as Prime Minister of Canada. We look forward to continuing to work alongside Prime Minister Carney and his new government to advance global health, food security, and sustainable livelihoods through a One Health approach.

As a leader in One Health, VWB/VSF strengthens the interconnected health of animals, people, and environments across Africa, Asia, and North America. Our programs support resilient food systems, strengthen animal and public health systems, and promote sustainable, community-led solutions to global challenges.

"At a time when the world faces rising threats from climate change, conflict, food insecurity, and emerging zoonotic diseases, leadership that prioritizes health, equity, and sustainability is critical," said Charmaine Brett, Executive Director of Veterinarians Without Borders North America. "We are hopeful that under Prime Minister Carney’s stewardship, Canada will continue to champion international cooperation, gender equality, Indigenous leadership, and One Health solutions that protect both people and the planet."

With nearly 2.4 billion people worldwide facing moderate or severe food insecurity, and growing risks from environmental degradation and emerging zoonotic diseases, Canada's steadfast commitment to humanitarian assistance, sustainable development, climate action, and global health remains vital.
