VWB/VSF has partnered with Veterináři bez hranic ČR,
o.p.s./Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Czech Republic (VSF
CZ) to help senior people in financial need access veterinary care for their pets. The program, "Aging Together", focused on three cities within the Czech Republic — Brno, Liberec, and Praha. After the outbreak of COVID-19, and the start of the war in Ukraine, the program experienced an influx in applicants due to increased need for seniors in isolation and newly arrived Ukrainian refugees and their pets in the Czech Republic.
Written by Janine Mitchell, Executive Director of VWB, in recognition of One Health Day (November 3), this article draws on the FAO Global Conference for Actions on One Health in Agrifood Systems and the VSF International General Assembly to explore what it takes to turn One Health commitments into action—from building equitable partnerships and strengthening collaboration to ensuring practical systems and accountability.
